General (regeneration after sport):
Why do we need regeneration and what is regeneration
Why do I need regeneration after exercise?
Faster, further, higher, harder. Sport is intentional stress, with the aim of making progress in training. But breaks are just as important as well-planned training sessions. Because while you are training, your body has to adapt to a new, external stimulus. The strain causes certain functional systems in the body to become unbalanced (homeostasis). After training, the body tries to restore balance through building processes.
Without an adequate regeneration phase, the training effects are reduced and the susceptibility to injury increases.
How long should the recovery time be after training?
How long the regeneration phase lasts depends on several factors. These include, for example, your personal training level, the intensity of the exercise or your age. As a guideline, which can be seen as the optimal regeneration period, a period of between 48 and 72 hours between the two training sessions is generally considered to be acceptable. These can also be shorter. Important: It doesn't work without breaks and regeneration!
However, this is not a license to do nothing: This advice only applies to the muscle groups that were last used.
What is the difference between active and passive regeneration?
In the active Regeneration is primarily about movement with low levels of exertion. It promotes blood circulation so that metabolic products or damaged tissue can be broken down more quickly. It also provides a new training stimulus with the aim of putting strain on the musculoskeletal system while protecting the joints. (Easy spinning, jogging, aqua jogging)
The passive Regeneration includes all measures that do not involve active movement. These include sleep, nutrition, progressive muscle relaxation (e.g. yoga), physiotherapy measures, fascia training, heat therapy or cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy
What is cryotherapy – cold therapy – and how does it work?
What is cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is the therapeutic treatment using cold. It is an element of the so-called thermotherapies, which have been used by people since ancient times.
can be practiced. In cryotherapy, the body is cooled as a whole or only on very specific parts of the body (local cryotherapy).
How does cryotherapy work?
- Reduction in blood flow: Even after application for around 10 minutes, deeper layers of tissue contract. This reduces the blood supply, which leads to a reduction in possible muscle damage.
- Inhibition of inflammation: Long-term, targeted cryotherapy dampens metabolic and inflammatory processes.
- Pain relief: As the temperature cools down, the tissue becomes less sensitive to pain. This can also reduce the subjective sensation of pain.
- Efficient reduction of heart rate and body temperature
- improved sleep quality, better subjective well-being. All this leads to better, faster regeneration after training and competition.
icebein recovery system
What is the icebein recovery system?
The icebein recovery system is a unique device for regeneration through cooling. It consists of a cooling unit, the so-called chiller, which can cool water down to 5 degrees (WITHOUT ICE). The temperature can be individually adjusted. This chiller is connected to the icebein Legs I, through which the cooled water is continuously pumped. It is therefore the perfect, modern, mobile and hygienic alternative to an ice bath.
Which muscle groups are cooled?
The entire leg and buttock muscles are cooled, as are all the joints, tendons and ligaments in the legs.
Can icebein also do compression?
The icebein recovery system does not generate active compression. A (light) passive compression can be generated by the icebein recovery legs. But don't worry, the natural effect of cooling leads to compression, or more precisely vasoconstriction: the cold treatment causes the veins to constrict. This creates a compression-like feeling in the legs.
The icebein Chiller I
Questions about our icebein chiller, the cooling unit of our icebein recovery system.
What are the advantages of the icebein Chiller I?
Previously, ice cubes were needed for each cryotherapy application and the temperature was not adjustable. With our icebein Chiller I, you don't need anything other than three liters of water and a power outlet. Set your desired temperature and your regeneration unit can start. In the long run, icebein not only saves you money, but also a lot of time and effort, as well as CO2 emissions, water and plastic waste.
What do I fill the icebein Chiller I with?
To ensure the longevity of the device, we recommend distilled water. The water should also be mixed with icebein disinfectant. This can counteract the microbial load inside the system. The water in the device should be changed every 2-4 weeks at the latest (depending on the temperature and/or sunlight).
If you don't have distilled water, you can also use normal tap water. However, the system should then be emptied immediately after use.
How do I empty the icebein Chiller I?
Open the male connector on the connector between the chiller and icebein legs. Direct the hose into a bucket and start the pump. This will pump almost all of the water out of the chiller. (Some residue is OK) Important: Open the cap on the filler neck so that no vacuum is created inside the cooling unit.

How do I change the temperature on the icebein Chiller I?
Would you like to adjust the temperature on the icebein Chiller I individually? No problem: Hold down one of the two gray arrow buttons (UP or DOWN) on the control panel of your chiller for a few seconds. As soon as you hear a second short beep, you can adjust the temperature up or down using the same buttons. Please note: There is a difference of 1-3 degrees Celsius between the temperature displayed and the actual temperature on your legs. This is due, among other things, to the body heat that every person radiates.
Furthermore, we cannot heat the water!
icebein Legs 2.0
Questions about our icebein Legs 2.0, the cooling pants of our icebein recovery system.
What are the icebein Legs 2.0
Your icebein Legs I consist of two components: Firstly, the “icebein softshell pants II” and secondly, the “icebein cooling pads II”.
The “icebein softshell pants” are made of high-quality softshell material that is lined with fleece on the inside. With the help of the Velcro fasteners on the sides, the pants can be perfectly adjusted to almost any leg thickness.
The “icebein cooling pad I” is made of a polyurethane plastic that is guaranteed to be skin-friendly. This continuously pumps water out of the chiller, ensuring constant and even cooling of the leg and buttock muscles.
How do I find the right trouser size?
We offer the icebein Legs 2.0 in three different sizes. The following sizes are available: 1, 2, 3. You can find detailed information in our size chart ( link ).
Please note: If you are between two different sizes, we always recommend the larger icebein legs.
How do I clean my icebein Legs 2.0?
You can easily wash the icebein softshell pants in the washing machine (30 degrees; not suitable for tumble drying). Make sure to remove the icebein cooling pad from the pants first! The icebein cooling pad is cleaned inside by the disinfectant in the water cycle. We also recommend our disinfectant for cleaning the surface. Simply spray the icebein cooling pad with the disinfectant, leave it to work for 20-30 seconds and wipe the surface with a dry cloth.
Caution: Alcohol-based disinfectants attack the plastic and may damage it.
How do I empty the icebein Legs 2.0?
Open the male connector on the connector between the chiller and icebein legs. Direct the hose into a bucket and start the pump. This will pump almost all of the water out of the chiller. (Some residue is OK) Important: Open the cap on the filler neck so that no vacuum is created inside the cooling unit.

Questions about the application:
How often should I icebein and what should I pay attention to in order to enjoy the perfect recovery session?
How long does an icebein recovery session last?
We recommend a maximum application time of 20 minutes per day. However, the sensation of cold varies from person to person. Therefore, a session should be stopped immediately if any discomfort occurs during the treatment (e.g. numbness in the legs).
What temperature is the right one?
Current scientific studies assume that the best regenerative effect is achieved at a temperature between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. The same applies here: cold is perceived subjectively in different ways. Tip from icebein: Start at slightly higher temperatures and then slowly work your way up to the temperature that is best for you.
What should I pay attention to during a recovery session?
To ensure that the system functions optimally, you should observe the following basic principles:
- Make sure that there are no folds in the pad when putting on the icebein Legs 2.0. Folds in the pad can affect the water flow and thus the cooling. You will notice this if, for example, one side is cooler than the other. In this case, it can help to raise the affected leg.
- Make sure that you always have enough water in the chiller, as this is the only way to use the full length. There should always be 3 liters of water in the chiller.
- Make sure the temperature setting is correct.
What if one leg is colder than the other?
If one leg is colder than the other, you should make sure that the water flow in the pad is not disrupted. This means making sure that there are no folds in the pad. It also helps to connect the pants to the chiller before you put them on and let the water run through. There should also always be enough water in the chiller.

Should I prepare specifically for the application?
Yes! You should consider the following tips before each icebein recovery session:
- Pay attention to your body: The application should always feel good and never be painful or uncomfortable. Especially in cold months, you should take a warm shower before each application!
- Keep your legs horizontal: Keep your legs as horizontal as possible during your recovery session to support perfect water circulation.
- Pay attention to the placement of the tubes: The tubes (hoses between the icebein chiller and the icebein legs) also give off cold. Place them in such a way that they do not bother you when you use them. Also make sure that the tubes are not pinched, twisted or kinked.
- Use icebein promptly after your training session: Try to use icebein within the first hour after exercise. This way you will achieve the greatest possible regenerative effect.

Problems and defects
The cooling does not start
- Check that the icebein chiller is connected to the power supply and the device is switched on.
- Check whether the target temperature is set correctly (see icebein Chiller I). If the target temperature is identical to the ambient temperature, your recovery set is not cooling the water down.
I'm not reaching the target temperature when cooling. What could be the reason for this?
- The target temperature is not set correctly.
- There is too little water in the system. Note: With new or empty cooling pads, approx. 1 liter of water (=water capacity of the pants) must be added to achieve optimal cooling performance.
- The icebein chiller requires 220 V and 50 Hz to achieve maximum cooling performance. If these requirements are not met (e.g. by connecting one or more multiple plugs), the target temperature may not be reached.
The icebein Legs 2.0 do not get (evenly) cold.
- It is possible that a fold has formed when you put on the pants, which is impeding the water circulation. Open a few Velcro fasteners on the affected trouser leg and carefully pull it straight.
- To prevent possible creases, you should rinse your icebein Legs I with water before (first) use. If the pads are already filled with water, this minimizes possible creases when putting on the pants.
The tubes from the chiller to the pants vibrate strongly.
This is an indicator that the chiller is drawing a vacuum. Open the cap on the chiller and add some water if necessary.
After use, water runs out of the chiller.
After each recovery session, disconnect the pants from the chiller. Otherwise, the water from the pants can flow back into the chiller and the integrated water tank can possibly overflow.
